The HOT ROD Homecoming 65th Anniversary Show

It's HOT ROD magazine's 65th anniversary in 2013, and to celebrate, the staff hosted a once-in-a-lifetime car show: a collection of 300-plus cover and feature cars from the pages of the mag, dating all the way back to 1948. In this video you'll get details on many of the cars that were on display at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, March 23-24, 2013. You'll also hear insights from magazine staff members past and present, as well as visits with hot rodding legends such as TV Tommy Ivo and Roland Leong. For further coverage, see HOTROD.com or the Sept. '13 issue of HOT ROD magazine. HOT ROD thanks Chevrolet Performance and Edelbrock for supporting this historic event.

HOT ROD Unlimited appears every other Friday on the Motor Trend channel. http://www.youtube.com/motortrend

Junkyard 'Cuda Rescue, With Nitrous Oxide! - Roadkill Episode 11

On this episode of Roadkill, David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of HOT ROD magazine fly out of town, buy a car from a junkyard, make it run and drive, do burnouts, add nitrous, drag race twice, almost die, and the auction off the car at the end. The scene begins at CTC Auto Ranch in Denton, Texas, where the guys score a '67 Plymouth Barracuda with a 360 V8, but without a carburetor, interior, glass, or brakes. By the time they sort out a number of other mechanical woes, they're off for some burnouts and some racing at North Star Dragway, right next to the Auto Ranch. Then it's a 300-mile drive to Houston for the NMCA Lone Star Nationals race. But, as you've come to expect from these guys, that doesn't exactly go smoothly. But then they add NOS nitrous and it makes everything ok as they hang out with Jeff Lutz and Tim Reed from HOT ROD Drag Week right before they have to sell the car and hit the plane home.

Roadkill appears every fourth Friday on the new Motor Trend channel. http://www.youtube.com/motortrend

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.

The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit play to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
