Not All Horsepower Addicts Are Men

Tamara Wong with Mustang, Photo: aol

Whoever said that only men have the need for speed?

Not Tracey Richardson of Lexington, Kentucky, who drives a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that rides herd over 430 ponies. And not Tamara Wong of Dublin, California, who gets her motoring kicks behind the wheel of a 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8, which is powered by a 6.1-liter V8 that delivers 425 horsepower.

It’s true that the majority of muscle-car owners are men, but Richardson and Wong are only two of the many women in America who are out there tearing up the road in their Corvettes, Chargers, Mustangs, and Camaros – not to mention luxury speed demons like Porsche 911s and AMG Mercedes models. Indeed, this is a very big country, one that includes millions of horsepower freaks. So even though females may be in the minority in this category, there are still a lot of them putting the pedal to the muscle-car metal.

TopSpeed Rendering: 2015 Ford Mustang

2015 Ford Mustang, Picture: TopSpeed.com
It has been rumored for quite some time now that the future generation Ford Mustang will drop its usual retro look and will adopt an exterior design that is "more technical, more modern" and inspired by the Ford Evos concept unveiled last fall at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. This decision was made in order to transform the muscle car into a model fit to go global.

The future model will still look like a Mustang and will keep its familiar shark-nosed grille and round headlights, but it will be the "most European-friendly version of the coupe ever."

A few changes will also be made under the hood. While the 2015 Mustang will keep its usual rear-wheel-drive configuration, it is expected to also get an independent rear suspension. The top version will keep the usual V8 engines, but the base models will get a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that will deliver about 300 HP.

The sixth generation Ford Mustang will be unveiled in 2014 in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mustang line.

My Torino GT is all original Body and numbers matching. I have done extensive work on engine with new comp cam and rings.valves.lifters etc. I had Hooker headers put on last fall before putting it away for the winter. Very kool sounding ride and very fast.It is the M code with the 351 4V Cleveland engine. It was brought up to Canada from Texas in 2003 in which I purchased it. It has been to many shows and cruises and has gotten alot of recognition around my area. To date it has won 7 trophies and numerous other awards...Gotta luv it.

2012 COPO Camaro: GM's Baddest Factory Camaro Ever!

It's the baddest factory Camaro ever! The 2012 COPO Camaro is a pure drag racing car built to compete in NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes, and in this episode of HOT ROD Unlimited, we go behind the scenes within General Motors to learn about the car, watch some radical burnouts, meet some of the people behind the COPO, see one of the engines on the dyno, and visit the Performance Build Center where the engines are assembled. At the time of our visit, the only COPO was the very first one, known as the Proof of Concept car, serial number 001. GM was not ready to release engine power numbers, drag times, or vehicle weights, as class details are still being worked out with the National Hot Rod Association.

There's still a strong demand for muscle cars

Picture: Ridelust.com
Carroll Shelby has never shied away from a challenge – especially one he’s set for himself. And ever since teaming up with one-time Ford President Lee Iacocca back in the mid-1960s, Shelby continually has found ways to pump more power out of the back wheels of a Mustang.

His latest effort, on display at the NY Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, is the Shelby 1000, which makes a cool 950 horsepower on the street, 1,100 hp in the track edition.

Shelby isn’t alone. The halls of the Javits Center are filled with an array of high-performance models, including the new Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, at 621 hp, and the 593 hp McLaren MP4-12C. Barely two decades ago, a top-line performer such as the Porsche 911 could barely squeeze out 200 ponies. Today, there are more than 70 models making at least 500, and a baker’s dozen top 600 hp.

Stavos Grillis Is A 9-Year Old Stud Drifter

Most nine-year olds are happy with their toys, video games, or iPads. But for the select few young ones that prefer something that’s reserved for somebody much older, they can take a cue from 9-year old Stavros Grillis.

Despite not yet hitting 10 years of age, Stavros Grillis is already an adept drifter. You read that right, folks. The kid has not only taken mastery of actually driving a car - let alone one with a stick shift on it - but he can also drift the wheels out of ’em.

Dodge Challenger SRT8 Limo: Luxury Meets Muscle

Between proms, parties, guys’/girls’ nights out, and other things, we have been in a lot of limos in our day. We have also seen plenty of them in our time in all shapes, sizes, makes, and models. However, we have never ever seen a muscle car stretched into a luxury limo. This all changed when we came across LA Custom Coach Inc., who is famous for stretching unusual vehicles into limos. The oddest limo on their lot, which includes a stretched F-650 and a stretched Charger, is a roughly 28-foot-long Challenger SRT8.

According to the video above, the entire stretching process took a total of four months from start to finish. It involved chopping this poor car in half, modifying its frame, then adding sheet metal and windows. On the inside, LA Custom Coach Inc. completely gutted the SRT8 and added in full black leather with slight touches of red, which are actually the signature SRT dual slashes.
